When you decide where you want to go on your next fishing trip in the summer months it is time to do some pre-planning. If you want to save precious fishing time then you need to construct a plan for the start of your fishing trip. I have provide you below some simple walleye fishing tips for fishing walleye live baits in the summer..

#1 Pick up a topographical map of the area you plan to fish.

Circle all weed bed areas on your map that have adjacent depth changes of more then a foot. When the weather is right and there is a wave chop, these areas are gold mine for walleye fishing.

#2 Contact a local bait shop.

A key question to ask , is “What is the best live bait choice if I am going to be walleye fishing? Make sure you specify to the bait dealer the time of year you will be fishing. It is surprising to me how many walleye anglers bypass this simple very important step.

#3 Attach shinny spinner blades and rattles to your live bait walleye fishing rigs.

For added attraction, you can add shinny spinner blades and line rattles. Walleyes are attracted to flashes and they can hear the rattle vibrating in the water.

# 4 Suggested live baits for walleye fishing:

As a rule of thumb, the norm suggested live bait for summer walleye fishing is either night crawlers or ribbon leaches. Your conversation on a local fishing chat room or from a local bait dealer may change the norm. They may know some specific tips to fish the local area that may be different from the norm. In the spring the norm usually is walleye minnows. Depending on the time you plan to fish the area minnows that are caught from the local waters still may be a viable live bait option in the summer months also.

#5 Weather conditions:

5a When the day is sunny and there is no wave chop, head to the weed beds! Go deep into the beds and look for open pockets . Vertical jig using a ¼” oz lead head jig tipped with a ribbon leach or large night crawler. Attach bright spinner blades and line rattles if needed. These areas are hard to fish, but surprisingly productive. I pulled a 6 lb walleye out of one of these pockets.

5b When there is a wave chop , regardless if it sunny out or not head to the weed bed areas you have circled that have a adjacent depth drop off. Fish these areas by back trolling or drifting with bottom bouncing live bait rigs. Vary the length of the trailing leader until you get the right combination. These areas can be walleye fishing sweet spots when there are wavy choppy water weather conditions.

I hope the information I have provided about walleye bait will help you on your next fishing trip! God bless and a good day to you.

walleye fishing and weather

NEVER BEFORE REVEALED Walleye Fishing Secrets Click Here!

It is critical to watch and understand local weather reports for the area you plan to fish for walleyes. Weather conditions play a big part in how walleyes act, where they are located, and how they feed. Take for instance when weather conditions are warm and sunny, most walleyes will head to deeper waters or find underwater structures to stay cool and shield their eyes. When the sun is out with no overcast and very little breeze, the walleye will head to the thick weed beds and underwater structure and deep for cover because the surface water is way to warm, so you will have to do your walleye fishing in these areas.

If the day is sunny but there is a good wave chop then you can find walleyes anywhere, including suspended because the waves will cool the water and distort the suns reflection. Walleyes become very active and aggressive right before a storm when the sky is dark and overcast and the surface water is choppy. This is a excellent time to limit out your walleye catch. The walleye fish is a very unpredictable species of species to fish for sometimes. Using the weather conditions of any particular day is a good way to decide on your walleye fishing starting point for the day.

The weather is just one indicator when you are trying to locate walleye. It is by no means always 100%. You should still use your GPS fishing finder also. But if you use these two methods to put you on fish you can save time and increase your chances of getting your walleye catch limit. But remember the walleye species may surprise you . Do not depend 100% on these two walleye fishing indicators to put you on fish. Be prepared to fish in other areas if these two indicators fail. Like I have said walleye can be very finicky and unpredictable fish at times. I think this one of the reasons they are one of the most sought after game fish.

As a rule of thumb walleye move closer to shore and into shallow water in the cooler months and farther out to deep water in the summer months, but remember that walleye are a very unpredictable fish and I have caught them close to shore in the dead of summer. Normally, Walleyes will move when there is a drop in water temperatures and there is a change in weather conditions such as a storm moving in or a overcast cold day, and by all means use these indicators for locating fish, just don’t depend on these indicators 100% be prepared to use other methods to fish for walleye if necessary.

I hope the information I have provided about fishing for walleye will help you on your next fishing trip! God bless and a good day to you.

NEVER BEFORE REVEALED Walleye Fishing Secrets Click Here!

The walleye or Pickerel for you Canadian folks , is one of the most sought after freshwater fish in North America today. These tasty  fish are caught on a Varity of different walleye baits. What I want to give you today is a general set of guideline to use when you are live bait walleye fishing. These guideline can be excellent reference material when you want ot organize your next walleye fishing trip.

Guideline #1 Live Baits To Use In the Spring

It is a proven fact that spring is a extremely productive time of year to catch walleye with live bait, but you need to understand what walleye baits work best this time of year. If you have tried ribbon leaches or night crawlers in the spring I suspect you had limited success. Both of these live walleye baits are great to use in the summer but not in early spring. In the spring the best walleyes bait to use are minnows. Make sure you contact your local bait dealer because the type of minnow you choose to catch walleye is very important. This step should not be sidestepped. You can save yourself a lot of wasted time if you by getting this information. Your fishing time is valuable so don’t waste it. Here’s a list of Minnows that are good for catching walleye:
(1)Fathead Minnow, or “mudminnow” or “Tuffy”, (2) Horney Head Chub or Redtail  Chub, (3) Redbelly Dace or “Rainbow”, (4) Spottail shiner, and Golden Shinner.

Guideline #2 Live Baits To Use In the Summer

{As the water temperatures rise and the seasons move from spring to summer your favorite walleye bait selection will need to change too. Normally spring time is the best time of year to use minnows, but in the summer time your walleye live bait selection could be ribbon leaches or night crawlers, or in some special fishing situations some other walleye baits. Don’t skimp on your walleye baits! Make your bait s for walleye look attractive as possible. The other live baits for walleye that work well in special fishing situations are: Mudtom, or Willow cat, larva tiger salamander, or waterdog, and the leopard frog.|The summer months bring a whole new selection of walleye baits. Here’s a  list of live baits for walleyes that have been proven to effective, listed in priority: (1) night crawlers, (2) Ribbon Leaches, (3) Water dogs, (4) Larva tiger salamander, (5) Leopard Frog . The preference by many walleye fisherman is the ribbon leech and night crawlers. Key Tip: Walleyes love live and squirmy baits , so dress up your hooks with plenty of fresh bait.}

Guideline #3 How To Keep Walleye Live Baits Fresh

If you are going to be successful at fishing for walleye with live bait you need to keep your walleye baits fresh and lively. When you dress up your walleye fishing rigs you want your ribbon leaches and night crawlers squirming and moving when placed on the hooks. When you use night crawlers it is very important to store them in commercial bedding with a damp cloth draped over the container. When you use ribbon leaches make sure to take them out of the container you purchased them in and place them in a Styrofoam bucket that is half full with non-chlorinated water. This will prolong the live of your ribbon leaches by several days. If you are storing your walleye fishing minnows in a bucket make sure it is aerated, preferably with a submerged pump that connects to a 12 volt battery.

Walleye Fishing Jigs:Vertical Jigging For Walleye Whats The Secret?

NEVER BEFORE REVEALED Walleye Fishing Secrets Click Here!

Vertical Jigging For Walleye

No other artificial walleye lure will catch walleyes as consistently as a lead head jig designed specifically for the walleye. There are definite, very simple reasons the walleye jig is so universal. Walleye spend the majority of there time on the bottom of what ever type of water they are located in.

A walleye jig is truly a diverse artificial bait and can be fished in a multiple of different ways for different type of water and seasonal situations. You can cast from and anchored or drifting boat, jig vertically for walleye while drifting with the wind or current, or troll slowly while bumping the jig along the bottom. And, you can fish a walleye jig plain when the walleyes are biting, or you can tip it with live bait when the fishing is slow.

Jigging Vertically For Walleye Tips And Techniques

You want to use a walleye fishing jig that is heavy enough to keep your line vertical when the jig hits the bottom. The jig needs to bounce gently off the bottom as you move in either situation. You will need to let your drift or troll gently bounce your walleye jig along the bottom contour. It is very important that you adjust your line length to adjust for depth changes. If the bottom get shallower, reel in line and if the bottom gets deeper let more line out. Make sure your line stays vertical at all times, this is very important if you want to feel a walleye’s bite. Walleyes are very light biters so you need to be able to see the slightest change in your line. When I talk about line movement change, i am referring to any change that is different from the normal line movement that occurs from the bounce off the bottom, this movement will have a identifiable pattern. You are looking for movement goes against the patten. If you see a change immediately set your hook, with a quick jerk upward.

Vertical jigging for walleye is much better technique to use in deeper water.I wouldn’t recommend casting for walleye in deeper water if the fish are located on or near the bottom. It is difficult to get your walleye jig to bounce off the bottom in a consistent pattern because of the angle the jig is at on the retrieve, when you vertical jig, this angle is a constant and consistently the same, And the jig bounces much higher. The extra action just may be the reason you will trigger more walleye strikes, especially in murky low clarity water.

Another reason vertical jigging for walleye works so well is you feel walleye strikes much easier. The reason is you are using less line and line stretch does not slight-en the feel of a walleye strike.

Vertical jigging for walleye is very effective when fishing in rivers or lakes. In a lake , jig vertically while letting the wind push your boat over hidden structure. Make sure if you are in a river that you drift with the current. You may half to slow your drift enough so your walleye fishing jig bounces nicely off the bottom.
